How the Grand Theft Auto VI release date changed over time.
When What happened Detail
December 2023 Trailer 1 lands with a 2025 window Rockstar revealed Grand Theft Auto VI with a trailer that promised only a broad 2025 launch window — no month, no day.
May 2025 First firm date: May 26, 2026 Rockstar moved off the 2025 window and committed to a specific date for the first time, apologising that it was "later than you expected".
Late 2025 Second delay: November 19, 2026 The date slipped roughly six months to Thursday, November 19, 2026 — the date Rockstar still lists today.
June 25, 2026 Pre-orders open worldwide Standard ($79.99) and Ultimate ($99.99) editions went up, with pricing revealed the day before.
August 2026 "An Extended Look" gameplay reveal A ~26-minute gameplay special captured on a base PS5, released on Netflix and other platforms. Rockstar reaffirmed the November date alongside it.
October 8, 2026 First six radio stations revealed A Rockstar Newswire post named six stations, their celebrity hosts, and confirmed the series’ first on-demand podcasts.
November 19, 2026 Launch day Grand Theft Auto VI releases on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.

The only direct explanation Rockstar has offered came with the first delay, when the studio said it was "very sorry that this is later than you expected". The second move, from May 26 to November 19, 2026, was communicated without a detailed rationale.

Both delays landed inside the same fiscal framing from Take-Two, and the November date has since been reaffirmed on an earnings call and alongside the August 2026 gameplay reveal — which is the strongest signal yet that it is holding.
